The molecules of life. The cell: Introduction, prokaryotes-eukaryotes differences. Membrane structure. The Cytoskeleton. The nucelus. The cellular organelles. Mitosis and Meiosis. Gametogeneis. Mendel’s laws. Allelism and chromosomic theory of heredity. Chromosomic determination of sex. Morgan’s experiments. Linkage theory. DNA: Structure and duplication. mRNA, tRNA, rRNA: structure and trascription. The mechanism of translation. Structure of chromosomes, classification and evolution. Genic and chromosomal mutations, biological menaing and association with pathologies in human. Heredity study of human pathologies: pedigrees for autosomal recessive, autosomal dominant and X-linked disorders. Cytogenetics techniques introduction.

The teaching consists in frontal lessons and in a test exam with discussion of the questions.

Assessment methods
The student must take a written test consisting of 30 multiple choice questions (4 answers with only one true) on chemical and biochemical applications, and 15 multiple choice questions (5 answers with only one true) of general biology. In the first test each question is worth 1 point and in the second 2. The tests are to be solved in 90 minutes.
The questions will be related to the program of the teachings of C.I. to define the knowledge and understanding (50%), the ability to apply knowledge and understanding (25%), communication skills (5%) and the ability to learn (20%) the relationship in chemistry, biochemistry and biology.
To pass the written examination, students must achieve a score of at least 17/30 in both tests; this will give access to the oral exam which consists in the re-discussion of mistakes made and in a couple of questions on questions relating to the program of the teachings of C.I. to define the knowledge and understanding (25%), the ability to apply knowledge and understanding (25%), communication skills (25%) and the ability to learn (25%), in relation to: the chemical molecules, to metabolism of human cells; the interactions between the metabolism in the human body; the molecular basis of heredity and formal and medical genetics.
The final mark is unique for C.I.
