To provide the student with: (i) fundamental knowledge of terminology, methods, and tools in the fields of hygiene, epidemiology, and public health; (ii) the skills to develop a scientific methodological approach, using the principles and tools of hygiene, to actively participate in the planning and implementation of prevention interventions.
The course introduces students to the fundamental concepts of hygiene, epidemiology, and public health, providing an overview of the concept of health and its determinants in the current context. Different types of epidemiological studies, both observational and experimental, will be presented, along with basic knowledge on research design and data organization. The course also explores the principles of prevention of infectious and chronic diseases, the levels of prevention (primary, secondary, and tertiary), and strategies for health promotion. Finally, topics related to health education and the organization of health services will be addressed.
