Written examination with open-ended questions. The final grade will also take into account students’ active participation in class and their ability to engage critically with the highly specialised topics covered in the course.

The course offers an in-depth exploration of the main areas of financial sector regulation.

In particular, Module 1 (6 ECTS; 40 hours) focuses on the core regulatory frameworks applicable to banks, insurance companies, as well as financial intermediaries and markets. Special attention is also devoted to certain cross-cutting and innovative provisions that reflect the most recent and significant developments affecting the financial system.

Module 2 (6 ECTS; 40 hours) examines the regulatory framework governing the corporate governance of financial intermediaries, with a specific focus on the discipline concerning the internal control system. It also illustrates the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) approach, which is of strategic relevance for the effective and efficient management of risks. At the end of the course, students will have acquired knowledge of the fundamental elements of the regulatory framework governing the corporate governance, operations, and risk management of the various categories of financial intermediaries (banks, insurance companies, and securities firms), as well as an understanding of the functioning of financial markets.
