German language skills at B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), basic skills on the segmental phonetics of German and speech signal analysis addressed during the course Lingua Tedesca 1, interest in deepening the study of the German language.
The exam consists of a written and of an oral part. To access the oral exam, the student must pass the written exam.
The written exam is given in the form of quizzes on the e-learning platform.
Both the written and the oral exam include one part on phonetics and one part on German linguistic skills of B2 level. Both parts contribute equally to the final grade.
The objectives of the course are the following:
- Providing the necessary linguistic knowledge for interacting in daily and professional life on common and also on abstract and specific topics and for translating texts of medium difficulty.
- Making students aware of the phonetic aspects of the German language to improve both language comprehension and pronunciation: the first “calling card” in professional life.

Theoretical and practical skills on the phonetics of German:
prosody: syllable, stress, accent, intonation, and rhythm
phonetic laboratory: analysis of German speech

f) reading comprehension
g) listening comprehension
2) contents on the phonetics of German:
a) prosody: syllable, stress, accent, intonation, and rhythm

- Interactive lessons in which students play an active role: they are invited to speak, to think independently and to ask questions about the topics.
- Exercises with German native teachers.
- Exercise materials on the e-learning platform with personalized feedback created by the teacher.
- Practical phonetics lessons with the help of audio and video files, sound articulation exercises and speech analysis by means of the free software Praat, used by phoneticians around the world.
