Teaching is a fundamental cornerstone for building the skills of the future professional graduate in Obstetrics as it aims to provide the student with:
• knowledge of the theories and models of obstetrics;
• historical evolution of the legislation on professional practice, basic and continuing training and legislation of a regional and national socio-health nature of specific interest for the professional practice of midwives
At the end of the course the student will be able to:
1. to define the Obstetric / Midwifery Discipline and the theoretical-conceptual models of obstetric care;
2. understand the historical evolution of the midwife's professional figure;
3. describe the legislation governing the midwife profession with particular reference to the areas of activity and responsibility and the current training course in reference to European standards

2. Evolution of the legislation in the midwifery's training path: from the birth of a nationally regulated training, to the university diploma and to the establishment of degree classes
3. Distinctive features of a profession and intellectual professions
4. Regulations governing the professional practice of the midwife with particular reference to professional responsibility and autonomy of the profession:
