Students should already have a basic scholastic knowledge of English grammar.
At the end of the course there is a written exam of grammar exercises based on the contents of the course book. In order to obtain a pass mark the student must reach a minimum of 18/30. The exercises include gap filling, question/anwer, reading comprehension etc.
Each correct answer is worth one mark.
The aim of the Basic English course is to reach a CEF level of B2.
At the end of the course the student will be provided with an adequate grammatical preparation for the Scientific English course in the second year and be able to understand and participate in simple conversations in the English language.
The course provides a rapid revision of basic grammar structures and ‘survival’ vocabulary. Including:
1. verb tenses
2. modals: can, must, have to, should, ought to
3. articles
4. interrogatives
5. prepositions of time and place
6. alphabet and spelling
7. reported speach
The course book is HEADWAY DIGITAL GOLD B1+, 5th edition, Oxford University Press
The course is conducted in English by direct method, making use of the digital course book and other audiovisual material available both on CD and on the OUP website.
