The first module is devoted to Electrostatics and Magnetostatics. The main topics can be summarized as follows:
- ELETTROSTATIC FIELDS IN VACUUM
Electric charge and Coulomb’s law, electrostatic field, work and electrostatic potential, electric dipole, Gauss’s law, divergence theorem, Stokes theorem, electrostatic Maxwell’s equations, electrostatic energy and pressure
- ELETTROSTATIC FIELDS IN MATTER
Dielectrics, polarization, electric induction
- ELECTRIC CURRENT
Charge conservation, Ohm’s law, Joule’s effect, electromotive force, Kirchoff’s laws
- MAGNETOSTATIC FIELDS IN VACUUM
Phenomenology, magnetic field, magnetic flux, magnetic force on moving charges, Laplace second law, magnetic field from a distribution of currents, Ampere’s circuitation, magnetostatics Maxwell’s equations
- MAGNETOSTATIC FIELDS IN MATTER
Magnetization of media, magnetic induction vector, microscopic origin of magnetization, diamagnetism and paramagnetism, ferromagnetism and permanent magnets

The list of the presented topics is available on the e-learning platform.
Lectures are based on the following textbook:
P. Mazzoldi, M. Nigro, C. Voci, Fisica Vol II, Elettromagnetsimo-Onde. Edises edizioni.

The first module (40 hours) is held during the first term. It is based on lectures, in which the theoretical aspects of the course are introduced and explained. During the lessons, the teacher presents the topics by making calculations and supporting all the statements with practical examples. To this aim, the teacher uses the graphics tablet and OneNote program. At the end of each lesson, the lesson notes are made available to students through OneNote cloud.
For both modules, 12 hours of exercises are delivered by a tutor in order to help students in the preparation of the written test. Moreover, some exercises from the previous exams are presented and explained by the two teachers during their lessons.

For questions/comments students are invited to directly contact the teacher by e-mail at the following address: alessia.allevi@uninsubria.it.
