No specific requirements are necessary (students are at the beginning of their course).
Oral examination with the goal to verify the level of achievement of the previously stated learning objectives. More precisely:
level of knowledge of the topics dealt in lectures;
deep understanding through the ability to provide examples of the concepts presented;
skills to link the contents presented;
ability to use the suggested sources;
class activities participation;
usage of teacher’s distance education platform.
Three questions will be posed: a general one to evaluate topic mastery, as well as the ability to organize a discourse; a more specific question; a third in order to confirm the evaluation result.
The evaluation is expressed in 30th. This evaluation is preparatory to the nursing methodology course 1 of the 2nd semester.
1. To start gaining knowledge, skills and competences for long life self-learning.
2. To identify and to know some of nursing science’s relevant concepts.
3. To describe some crucial steps of Italian nurses professionalization process.
4. To acknowledge the need for confronting existential and ethical problems in nursing practice.
5. To critically appraise the philosophical approach inspiring health professionals and nursing theories.
6. To know and start using the nursing method and instruments.
7. To work in a safe way for themselves and for others.
1. Notes on nursing sciences’ development.
1.1 Nursing theories in Italy and abroad.
1.2 The importance of using a Scientific language in Nursing.
1.3 The history and structure of the International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP®) by ICN.
1.4 The importance of nursing research in Nursing Science evolution (research process and literature review).
1.5 Some of the fundamental concepts for nursing science: Man-Person, Health and Wellness, Environment and safety, Caring and Nursing.
2. Italian nurses professionalization process: some insights and key points from history to understand it.
3. Ethics in nursing practice.
3.1 Moral developmental stages of a person, a health professional, and the concept of responsibility.
3.2 Values and nursing.
3.3 Codes of ethics.
4. Analytic, sistemic, holistic and complexity aproaches in nursing: “state of the art” in Italy and abroad.
5. Nursing methodology and nursing instruments.
5.1 Nursing Problem Solving: the nursing process.
5.2 Nursing process oriented by MAPU (Caring Model of Human Processes, 2015) and using ICNP®.
5.3 Communication, relationships and interviews in health care.
5.3.1 To communicate in order to guarantee patient safety: SBAR and safety "7 S".
5.4 Observation in nursing.
5.5 Nursing documentation.
6. Nurses’ world: main working areas of nurses.
