The student should have successfully completed the English language course in the first year and have reached the basic grammar level of CEF B2.
An exam at the end of the course consisting of a written Reading Comprehension with exercises and a group presentation of an extended essay using Power Point to be discussed with the lecturer.
The aim of the course is to enable the student to fully utilise the language as a tool i the working environment, conferences, research etc.
The course focalises on both general and specific medical vocabulary, with the use of role-play and dialogue construction and reading comprehension of related texts. The course includes:
1. reading comprehension texts taken from original professional articles.
2. writing a presentation letter and CV
3. departments and professions in a British hospital.
4. writing a simple medical case note.
5. summarising medical texts.
6. specific vocabulary for symptoms and pain.
7. giving instructions and explanations.
8. anatomical terminology.
9. an extended essay: the course is divided into groups and prepares a short presentation on a chosen topic which is then discussed and presented with the use of power point.
Photocopies of relevant articles chosen by the teacher and made available to the students on e-learning.
Lessons are conducted by direct method in the classroom and audio-visual research by the students.
