The aim of this course is to bring students who already possess basic morphosyntactic linguistic skills in Russian to a level of competence comparable to A2-B1 (Предпороговый / Waystage- Пороговый / Threshold).

Moving from theoretical reflections on linguistic phenomena, the course aims at deepening the knowledge of the peculiarities of the Russian language system. In the first module, an in-depth analysis of verbal aspect, one of the most controversial issues of the Russian language, will be carried out. We will analyze the formal marking of verbal aspect, the meanings of aspectual pairs, the interaction of verbal aspect with time. Motion verbs which, in addition to having perfective prefixed forms, have systematically two imperfect forms for each verb, will be the object of the second part of the first module. Finally, the study of nominal morphology will be completed, examining some specificities related to the semantics of cases. In the second module, the analysis of the Russian verbal system will continue, focusing on transitive verbs of motion with prefixes, position verbs, and reflective verbs. Consideration will then be given to the semantic and grammatical properties of the simple proposition, by analyzing its nominal components. With regard to the adjectival system, the complex relationship between the long and short form of adjectives will be studied. Finally, we will examine the syntax of relative phrases and the rules governing the changement of sentences from direct to indirect speech.
The course will be supplemented by language lessons held by language experts, aimed at consolidating and expanding communication skills in the four skills. Attendance is compulsory and part of the overall schedule. Practical lessons will focus on: reading, writing and listening exercises; Grammar exercises; acquisition of the lexicon; Oral production (dialogue and monologue).

Mother tongue students:
Only students having excellent knowledge of standard Russian (литературный язык) will be considered mother tongue speakers. Native speakers will have to study the theoretical part of the course so that they can explain the phonetic and morphosyntactic peculiarities of the Russian language system.
