Basic knowledge of geomorphology, lithology and climate and paleoclimate.
Oral test with evaluation in a scale of 30/30
the main aims of the course are the recognition, description and understanding of the quaternary deposits and their paleoclimatic and paleoenvironmental meaning.
The course is composed by 4 modules:
1) The deposits: what are and how we can describe them: sedimentology and stratigraphy elements of loose deposits. Main structures and and analyses methods (6 hours):Lithostratigraphic; allostratigraphic, magnetostratigraphic, biostratigrafic, tefrostratigrafic, cronostratigrafic, climatostratigrafic units. Mammals biochronology. (2 hours)
2) Dating methods applied to Quaternary: 14C; Thermoluminescence, other methods. (4 hours)
3) The Quaternary; Chronology and main climatic events. Glaciations and interglacials. Sea level changes.(4 hours)
4) The Holocene: Chronology and main climatic events. Glacial fluctuations and sea level changes. (4 hours)
