- Wave aspects of light: electromagnetic waves, interference, diffraction, scattering. Absorption and emission of photons by matter. Light sources and illuminants. Radiometry.
- The eye and vision:
Structure of the eye. Retina: structure and functioning. Day and night vision: rods and cones. Transmission of the signals to the brain. Colour vision and colour blindness. Photometry.
- Colorimetry: tristimulus values. Illuminants. Colour spaces. CIE standard colorimetric system. CIE diagram. Metamerism. Measurement and calculation of colorimetric values. Uniform colour spaces. Empirical colour spaces. Instruments for colour measurement. Technological applications.
