The main objective of the course is to give students the tools to correctly read and interpret, from a statistical point of view, the results of scientific research.
- Introduction: justification for studying statistics for nursing students; the statistical method.
- Descriptive statistics-part 1: definition of variable, types of variables, frequency distribution, tabular and graphical representations.
- Part 2-descriptive statistics: measure of central tendency (mean, mode, median) and dispersion (range, variance, standard deviation), the symmetry indexes.
- Definition of probability and theoretical probability distributions: Binomial and Normal distribution
- Population and sample, sampling methods, the sampling distribution of the mean.
- Statistical inference: confidence intervals, Hypothesis Testing, p-value approach
