The participants should possess written and oral knowledge of the Italian language, exhibit high motivation and be capable of using appropriate strategies to learn autonomously.
The exam will consist of a written test on the topics dealt with during the course. More detailed information on the structure of the exam will be provided at the beginning of the course.
The course aims to provide the participants with a comprehensive knowledge of the institutions, history and culture of the German speaking countries. Based on this knowledge, the students will be led to adopt a critical approach towards past and current cultural topics to discover differences between cultures and learn how to manage them.
The course will be divided into a general and a specific module.
The general module will deal with main facts of politics, history, culture and society of the German speaking countries. Particular attention will be devoted to following topics:
- Geography
- Modern and contemporary history
- Mass media, current topics, social life
- Linguistic situation: standard language and dialects
- Cultural life, history of literature
- Intercultural relationships between Italians and Germans
The specific module will focus on a relevant topic concerning modern Germany’s socio-political and cultural life. Further information will be provided at the beginning of the course.

Additional materials will be available on the e-learning platform.
The course will consist of lectures, discussions and group activities. Students will be provided with the theoretical instruments needed to critically reflect on the topics covered in the course.
Students who cannot attend classes are kindly requested to stay up to date and download additional learning materials from the e-learning platform. Should they have any questions or special need, they may turn to the instructor for advice.
The final exam will be the same for students who attended and for those who did not attend classes.
